PHILLIPS Programs Boot Scootin' Gala!

“A Tisket, A Tasket I want to win a PHILLIPS Basket:"

Join PHILLIPS Programs May 12, 2012 for a Boot Scootin’ Gala

(McLean, Virginia) Saturday May 12, 2012 PHILLIPS Programs for Children and Families will host its annual gala. Once a year, PHILLIPS Programs creates a night of fun and entertainment for the community and their supporters. Corporate and private “gala goers” don a costume to fit the gala theme and spend an evening raising money to support services offered by PHILLIPS that are not covered by public reimbursement funding streams.

“I have to say I go to a lot of galas and the PHILLIPS event is by far the most fun...”shares Dave Williams, PHILLIPS Vice President. What makes the PHILLIPS event so special? Each year the planning committee picks a “theme” and builds the night around the idea. This year guests are asked to put on their cowboy boots and be ready to learn country line dances from the PHILLIPS Student Dance Club!

PHILLIPS is going Western to raise money for its New Horizons Fund. New Horizons is a fund designed to help the organization expand its mission to meet the changing needs of kids, youth and families. The evening will focus on what it takes to build lives and futures for children after they have attended or been served by PHILLIPS. PHILLIPS’ job training, employment readiness and independent living skills programs will be highlighted as well as the community partners who help the PHILLIPS team build futures for kids, youth and parents.

A ticket of $250 dollars will buy a guest an evening that they won’t forget--great food and drinks, student entertainment and dancing, silent and live auctions and of course the PHILLIPS Gift Basket Raffle.  The PHILLIPS Gift Basket Raffle is a tradition that was started years ago by PHILLIPS staff. The making of the PHILLIPS Gala Baskets starts right after the New Year in January and goes through the week or so before the evening of the gala. Over 50 baskets are created by teams of staff and volunteers -- the night of the gala a guest will find baskets stuffed with everything one might need for the arrival of a new baby to a basket filled with a “pirate’s treasure.”  “We raise close to $20,000 on our basket raffle” shares Sarah Caldwell, PHILLIPS Development Coordinator. “This is just another huge way the PHILLIPS staff give back to the organization--its fun watching the baskets get built and even more wonderful to know how this tradition helps keep PHILLIPS mission strong,” shares Takicha Lee, Gala Program Committee Chair.

There are a variety of ways the community can support the gala and join the fun! Consider donating a basket or auction item, which is a great way to advertise your business while showing support for the community. Sponsor a table or purchase individual tickets. Join us on Saturday May 12, 2012 from 6:00-11:00pm as we kick up our heels and raise money to support the future of our community’s youth and families! Hey, it’s a great way to pick up a Mother’s Day gift for the next day--and make a difference!
