Annandale, TJHSST Student Publications Named Finalists for CSPA Crown Award
Annandale High School's student newspaper and Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology's student yearbook will both receive a Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
The Annandale High School student newspaper The A-Blast is one of seven Fairfax County schools to be recognized as a finalist for the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) Scholastic Crown Award.
Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology’s (TJHSST) yearbook Techniques was also named as finalist in the "High School Yearbook" category.
According to the CSPA website, Scholastic Crown Awards are "the highest recognition given by the CSPA to a student print or online medium for overall excellence."
Since all finalists are winners, each publication will later receive a Silver or Gold Crown in March 2013 at the CSPA’s spring convention in New York.
A panel of judges composed of advisors from various schools and states reviewed a total of 1,344 digital, newspapers, magazines and yearbooks entries at Columbia University from Dec. 8-10 and selected each of the finalists. Only entries printed in the 2011-2012 academic year were eligible for judging in the 2013 Crown Awards program, the CSPA website states.
The CSPA is an international student press association.
