Bloom Property Still Vacant a Year Later
New businesses have moved into Annandale since Bloom closed in January 2012, but none into that property.
Despite efforts to find a business to move into the property once occupied by the Bloom supermarket in the Annandale Shopping Center, the space remains vacant more than a year after Bloom closed.
According to Carol Zach-Reuss, manager of the Annandale Shopping Center, the property is still available for lease. Zach-Reuss said every effort is being made to find the right business to move into the space.
The Annandale Bloom opened in January 2010 at 7000 Columbia Pike. The store closed in late January 2012 awhen Delhaize America closed several of its underperforming stores.
What do you want to see replace Bloom? Take our poll in our first Visions for Vacancies for 2013.
Zach-Reuss said the property has typically housed grocery stores. It was once an A&P and then a Magruder's. There was also a time when part of the property was a Dart Drug store and later a Rite Aid. The property was once two spaces, but the two properties were merged to accommodate a larger grocery store when Rite Aid left.
Do you remember a store that used to be located in the former Bloom property? Tell us your memories in the comments!

I think the property should be divided into several smaller stores and have a mall type entrance. There could be a restaurant and a few speciality shops. I would love to a think out of the box approach on this space.

Anything but another car loan place, thrift store, fast food/Asian/ pizza restaurant, or drug store. We've got more than enough of those!

An outdoor sports shop like REI would be nice.

I would love to see a Chipotle and/or Panera Bread there. The closest of those is in Merrifield and the new Mosiac stores/movie theatre, etc open there have caused parking for that Chipotle and Panera Bread to be much more challenging.

Buenos Grill is right across the street, which is basically a Chipotle except (a) so much better and (b) locally owned.

I would like to see a Whole Foods or Wegmans here. It seems unfortunate that Blooms died out because it seemed not to be able to compete with Giant and Safeway in close proximity. Maybe it's too much competition with larger stores if another grocery store goes in ??

I think that they should do something for families with kids like an indoor playground with the ice-cream stand and a carrousel. There was one like that in SkyLIne Mall long time ago, and now they placed a Target there. Horrible!

There is Harris Teeter close by and farmer's market -- no need for Whole Foods!
