Local Organizations Receive Annandale Rotary Grant Awards

Two of the five receiving organizations are based in Annandale

Annandale-based and Good Spoon, along with three other organizations received grant awards from the Annandale Rotary Club on Wednesday afternoon.

The five local community service organizations were all chosen by the Rotary's committee. The annual tradition has existed over the last 35 years and supported over 35 organizations in the greater Annandale area, Committee Chair Alan Mayer said during the presentation.

Rev. Jae Euk Kim and Yoon Duk Choi accepted the $1,000 award on behalf of Good Spoon while Woody Prothero, director of operations accepted the $1,000 award for Senior Employment Services.

Bailey's Crossroads Community Shelter, which is a single adult shelter located in Falls Church with 50 emergency beds, also received a $1,000 award. "This helps us tremendously," said Assistant Program Director Barbara Tate. "We see so many people that just need a little bit of assistance." Bailey's assists a range from age 18 to 80 years old who are homeless.

Jeff Dannick, the new executive director of the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (JCCNV) in Fairfax, accepted the $500 award along with volunteer Sara Astrow on behalf of the JCCNV. Dannick said the award money would go toward the FACETS program.

Wesley Housing Development Coorperation, based in Lincolnia, also received a $1,000 award with Volunteer and Community Program manager Amanda House and Family Program Coordinator Irrin Savansai accepting for their organization. Wesley's mission is to create and maintain affordable housing for low and moderate income persons in Northern Virginia.
