Update: Hurricane Sandy in Annandale, Road Closures and More

Update 6:17 p.m.
All Fairfax County Park Authority facilities (with the exception of RECenters being used as shelters) will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
In addition to federal government offices, all Fairfax County government offices will be closed on Tuesday. According to an email from Braddock District Supervisor John Cook, the Board of Supervisors will still have their meeting tomorrow at the Fairfax County Government Center, but presentations have been cancelled. All public hearings will also be deferred.
All Fairfax County libraries, including the George Mason Regional Library in Annandale, will be closed on Tuesday. Fairfax County Health Department facilities, Neighborhood and Community Services, including community, teen and senior Centers, will be closed.

Update 3:39 p.m.
The Dominion Power outage map is currently showing eight customers in Annandale without power as of 3:30 p.m., but Gov. Bob McDonnell told Virginians to prepare for widespread power outages over the next 24 hours.
Federal offices will be closed on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Only Emergency personnel are expected to report to work.
Some roads in Annandale have already closed due to high water causd by the rain on Monday, according to the Fairfax County emergency blog. Those roads include: Prosperity Avenue and Hillside Place, Prosperity Avenue and Morningside Drive, Woodburn Road and Robey Avenue and Woodburn Road and Spicewood Drive. The county urges residents to use caution when approaching flooded roads and to “turn around, don’t drown”.
Northern Virginia Community College campuses, including the Annandale one, and administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) announced on Sunday that schools will be closed on Tuesday.

With schools and government offices closed and Virginia State Police urging residents to stay off the roads, most of the traffic in Annandale on Monday was at grocery stores as residents ventured out to gather additional supplies.
In downtown Annandale, stores in the Annandale Shopping Center like Silverado and Burger King were open. Buenos Grill, the new Mexican restaurant that has been attempting to open since earlier this summer, postponed their grand opening scheduled for today.
