After almost two months of construction, the remodel of the Annandale Hess gas station at 7100 Little River Tpke., near the corner of John Marr Drive is starting to take shape. The convenience store building for the gas station was delivered at the end of April. Construction crews have been at work almost daily continuining work on the property in order to meet the scheduled July open date. The gas station closed in March in order to complete renovations. After more than a year of constructon, the latest CVS location in the Annandale area officially opened on Sunday. According to an employee at the store, the store opened with little fanfare, but had seen a solid amount of customers throughout the day who noticed the "now open" signs posted out front and chose to stop in. The store is located at 3921 Prosperity Ave., in Fairfax just outside of Annandale and west of the beltway. It's a full-service CVS and includes a drive-thru and a 24-hour pharmacy. By the looks of things, the new CVS located at 3921 Prosperity Ave., will open this month as planned. Much of the remaining construction, with the exception of some interior and landscaping is complete, according to a construction worker on site. Back in March, Mike DeAngelis, director of public relations for CVS, told Patch the store hoped to open in April after months of delays due to permit approvals and unexpected site cleanup construction. Local garden center and landscape business Campbell & Ferrara Outdoor Living is aiming to move out of their longtime Little River Turnpike location just outside of Annandale and relocate to Mount Vernon by May 31. The Annandale Blockbuster Video at 7448 Little River Tpke., officially closed this month and it looks like a new business has already leased the now-vacant property. According to the Fairfax Inspections Database Online (FIDO) system, a permit for a new interior layout for an Advanced Auto Parts store was processed on Tuesday by the county for that address. The system also shows that a zoning plan for the layout was reviewed and approved. After two years as commander of the Mason District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department, Capt. Gun Lee is leaving to take on a new role within the department. Tuesday night’s Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Mason District Governmental Center in Annandale will be Lee’s last meeting. Lee succeeded Maj. Ted Arnn in 2011 as commander when Arnn was promoted. Mason District Land Use Committee (MDLUC) chair and Mason District resident Roy Lounsbury has retired from the committee after serving on it for 25 years. Janet Hall, representative for Mason District on the Fairfax County Planning Commission, made the announcement at Tuesday’s monthly committee meeting at the Mason District Governmental Center. The meeting was Lounsbury's last meeting as committee chair. The new CVS under construction in Annandale west of the beltway at 3921 Prosperity Ave. did not open this month as expected; instead, the company is now hoping to open in two months time. Mike DeAngelis, director of public relations for CVS, told Patch the store now plans to open in April, barring any issues or permit delays. Site clean up on the location, which used to be a gas station, took longer than expected and the company was also awaiting approval on a few permits, DeAngelis said. Despite efforts to find a business to move into the property once occupied by the Bloom supermarket in the Annandale Shopping Center, the space remains vacant more than a year after Bloom closed. According to Carol Zach-Reuss, manager of the Annandale Shopping Center, the property is still available for lease. Zach-Reuss said every effort is being made to find the right business to move into the space. The Annandale Bloom opened in January 2010 at 7000 Columbia Pike. The Annandale Blockbuster Video store will begin selling off its inventory Monday as part of the store's closing sale. The sale begins at 11 a.m. Monday. The store, located in the Little River Shopping Center beside Dollar Tree, is one of 300 stores Blockbuster plans to close in the next few months. An employee said prices on all previously viewed DVD's are $9.99 each or lower excluding multi-disc sets and merchandise from Disney merchandise and DVD's (which are price-controlled). Annandale residents in Mason District or in the greater Annandale area who are concerned about issues affecting Mason District are invited to swing by the Mason District Council of Community Associations (MDC) town hall meeting Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Annandale United Methodist Church. The results of a community survey conducted by the MDC will be discussed at length during the meeting, which will feature local officials and community leaders. Bad news for Annandale residents hoping to get their Korean fried chicken fix: BonChon has left Annandale. A representative in the BonChon New York headquarters, who declined to give their name, said the BonChon franchise located at 6653 Little River Tpke., Suite H in the Willow Run Shopping Center is no longer at that address. However, the company still lists Annandale as a location on their website. The representative declined to give a reason as to why the franchise left. Remember that new Korean undergarment store TRY we told you about back in November? It's now open. TRY had its grand opening earlier this month, according to an employee in the store who did not give her name. According to their website, TRY is “a comfortable, fashionable, trendy innerwear brand store that will cater to men, women and children.” The store is located at 7432 Little River Tpke., beside the Petco and Safeway in the Little River Shopping Center. The new Bill Page Chevrolet dealership, which has been under construction since late summer, is mostly complete. Dozens of Chevrolet car models now line the parking lot of the dealership, located at 6500 Little River Turnpike in Alexandria just outside of Annandale. In August, Raymond Page, owner of Bill Page Toyota and Honda, told Patch the dealership would open in late fall or winter. That seems to be about right since the store appears to be open. Several Annandale residents have been wondering when Walgreens plans to begin construction on the former site of Fuddruckers. So when's the official start date? I don't know. As Patch previously reported, a representative for Walgreens told the Annandale Central Business District Planning Committee (ACBDPC) construction would begin in early September. After five months of vacancy, the building at 7221 Little River Turnpike, the former site of Trophy Mart, is occupied once again. LoanMax Title Loans moved in to the property two weeks ago, according to an employee who did not give her name. The store provides short-term loans on car titles. Their website states LoanMax Title Loans opened in Georgia in 1990 and has almost 1,000 stores in 20 states. Trophy Mart, which spent more than 25 years at their Annandale location, relocated to a new property in Alexandria back in July.
