Arts Corner: Art at Beanetics, St. Jude's Benefit Concert, Annie the Musical

In the mood for a little music? Dancing? Here's five upcoming arts-related events and activities in and around Annandale.

Are you looking to catch some tunes or tour a local art gallery this weekend? There’s a good chance you’ll find a local event or activity in Annandale that will appeal to your creative side.

Here’s a rundown of some of the arts-related events in the Annandale-area this weekend.

  1. Get an early start to the weekend with a concert for a good cause: The Jewish Community Center, located at 8900 Little River Turnpike in Fairfax just outside of Annandale, will host th 2nd Annual Musical Benefit Concert for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital on Thursday. Tickets are $7 at the door.
  2. The sun will come out during the City of Fairfax Theatre Company’s performance of Annie the Musical. The show will feature a special guest as part of their cast this weekend: Sen. Chap Petersen (D-34th). Petersen will play President Theodore Roosevelt alongside two full casts that include an adorable set of 4-year-old twins. 
  3. The NOVA-Annandale Symphony Orchestra will take the stage at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield Friday night at 7:30 p.m. for the Braddock Nights Summer Concert Series. The orchestra has performed a variety of music at local events across Fairfax County since 1994.
  4. If pop/rock music style is more your style, you could always swing by Mason District Park at 7:30 p.m. and watch Mary Ann Redmond perform as part of the Spotlight by Starlight Summer Concert Series.
  5. There's also no shortage of art viewings in Annandale. Popular coffee shop Beanetics allows local artists to display their artwork as part of its Evolution of Art series. Swing by, grab a cup of java and get lost in the featured paintings on the wall.
