Braddock's Best Honored at Annual Awards Presentation

The awards went to individuals and organizations in the Braddock District

Braddock District citizens and organizations were honored at the 2011 Best of Braddock Awards presentation at the in Burke on Wednesday evening.

Presented jointly by the Braddock District Council of Community Associations and the office of Braddock District Supervisor John Cook, the Best of Braddock awards honor citizens, organizations and businesses of the Braddock District whose contributions help to strengthen the community.

  • Henry and Marie Cullerton of the Kings Park community received the Braddock District Citizen of the Year award.
  • The Ravensworth Farm Civic Association won the award for Club or Organization Making a Difference in the Braddock District.
  • Tony Velluci with Kings Park West received the Neighborhood Enhancement or Beautification in the Braddock District award.
  • Clayton Redfern, a U.S. Postal Service employee, received the Most Can-Do Federal Public Employee Working in the Braddock District award.
  • Edward Barnes, director of the David Pinn Community Center received the Most Can-Do Local Public Employee Working in the Braddock District award.
  • Theresa Kurtz of Burke Cove received the Neighborhood Enhancement or Beautification in the Braddock District award.
  • Robinson Secondary School seniors Jessica Aviles and Alexander Emmons received the Braddock District Young Person of the Year award.
  • Timothy Cho, also from Robinson Secondary School, received the Special Achievement award.
  • The Commercial Enhancement or Beautification in the Braddock District award went to Rick Wolff with University Mall.

Homeowner and Civic Association leadership within the Braddock District select each of the winners.

Several Braddock District representatives attended the ceremony, including Braddock District Supervisor John Cook, Braddock District Council Chair Bill Barfield, Braddock District School Board Member Tessie Wilson, Congressman Gerry Connolly, Del. David Bulova, At-Large School Board Member Ilryong Moon.
