Cub Scouts Race, Show at District Pinewood Derby

The Fairfax event included groups from around the county, including Annandale

A large crowd of Cub Scouts and their parents turned up at the Patriot District Pinewood Derby last Saturday, including groups from Annandale.

All of the scouts at the event had gone through a pack level Pinewood Derby and placed first in their area to get to this point. They hailed from packs based in Burke, Fairfax Station and Annandale. Cub Scouts could win in the category of fastest car or in the category of "Best in Show," for creativity and design.

Joe Margraf of Pack 1965, based out of the Lake Braddock Community Center in Burke, emceed the event, cracking jokes and encouraging the scouts to have more energy. Members of Alpha Phi Omega, a service fraternity at George Mason University, helped register cars at the event. Margraf presented them with a tiny trophy at the end of the day in thanks for their service.
