Fairfax County License Plates Now Available for Pre-Order

At least 350 pre-orders must be received to get the plates printed.

by Jamie M. Rogers

Fairfax County-themed license plates are available for pre-order through Visit Fairfax, also known as the Fairfax County Convention and Visitors Corporation.

The plates were approved in January by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, but at least 350 pre-orders must be received before the plates will be made, according to the Visit Fairfax site.

Three-hundred and fifty is also the magic number to get all DMV offices to stock the plate.

There is an annual fee of $25 for the plates–add $10 if you want it personalized. Six is the maximum number of characters that can fit on the plate.

Fifteen dollars of the fee will benefit the World Police and Fire Games, a sporting event that's coming to Fairfax County on June 26-July 5 in 2015. The state will receive the rest of the money.

To pre-order a plate, download the VS-10 application form here or from the Visit Fairfax website at www.fxva.com/plates/mail/.  Completed forms can be submitted electronically through the site, but only credit card payments are accepted with electronically submitted forms.

Check and credit cards are accepted with forms sent via U.S. Mail.

The address is:
Visit Fairfax
3702 Pender Drive, Suite 420
Fairfax, VA 22030

It can take up nine months for residents to receive the plates from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

If at least 350 applications are not received, the fee will be refunded.
