1. The Washington Toho Koto Society
Where/When: Royal Lake Park, 5344 Gainsborough Drive, Fairfax/Friday, July 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: This nonprofit group was founded in 1971 to promote the understanding and appreciation of Japanese koto music. In 2003 the Foreign Minister of Japan gave them a special award for promoting koto music and friendship with the US for over 30 years.

Why Go: Little Red is popular with jazz music and swing dancers. Don’t miss out on a fun night of accordion music and Zydeco dancing.

3. Maryland Youth Ballet/ Monumental Brass Quintet
Where/When: Wolf Trap Theatre in the Woods, 1645 Trap Road, Vienna/Saturday, July 30 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Why Go: At 10 a.m. talented local young dancers will present Caroline’s fantastic adventure. The prize-winning brass horn ensemble will perform at 11 a.m. and inspire your kids to make their own music.

4. The Sound of Music

Why Go: The City of Fairfax Theatre Company will bring to life this classic tale Maria and the seven von Trapp children.

Why Go: Enjoy a celebration of Celtic music and Irish step dancing. The movie, The Secret of Roan Inish starts at dark.
