Lee District RECenter Open as Shelter for Residents

Fairfax County will open shelters as needed during Hurricane Sandy to help assist residents.

Residents who find themselves without power or other accomodations during Hurricane Sandy are in luck. Fairfax County has opened a shelter at the Lee District RECenter located at 6601 Telegraph Road, Alexandria, according to the Fairfax County emergency blog.

The blog post states that residents are allowed to bring the following items to the shelter:

  • A three-day supply of special items for any older adults, people with disabilities or infant members of your household, including assistive equipment.
  • Special diet food, esp. if you have food restrictions/allergies.
  • Change of clothing.
  • Pillows, if needed.

Blankets and cots will be given to those who come to the shelter.

In addition, Fairfax County Animal Control will have a mobile van to help those residents with pets have a place to keep their animals safe. Only cats and dogs will be allowed in the RECenter. All toys and food must be left at home. Dogs should be brought in on a leash and all cats must be in a carrier.
