More Than 300 Dominion Customers Still Without Power in Annandale

More than 300 Dominion Virginia Power customers in the Annandale-area are still without power following Monday's winter storm.

The storm left downed trees, power lines and even sinkholes in its wake, and the National Weather Service said Monday that there's more snow on the way.

As of noon Monday, the number of customers without power across Northern Virginia had increased slightly to 66,769, including 45,452 in Fairfax County and 1,409 in Alexandria.

In Annandale, the majority of the power outages were around Heritage Drive, Hummer Road, Sleepy Hollow Woods, Braddock Road, Ravensworth Road, and in Lincolnia, according to the Dominion Virginia Power outage map.

Dan Genest, a spokesman for Dominion Virginia Power, told Patch the company did not have an estimated restoration time for those customers in Northern Virginia along with Fredericksburg.

"As of this moment, we do not," Genest said. "This storm has hung around a lot longer than was anticipated. We have some areas where icing is still going on. And we have another storm estimated to come through early in the morning hours. So, between those two things, we don't have a restoration time — other than to say this will be a multi-day event."

Dominion does expect to get power restored to many more customers Monday afternoon and into the evening, though the company is keeping an eye on the next storm in case that puts people back in the dark, he said.

As of 10:15 a.m. Monday, Dominion Virginia Power reported 65,057 customers across Northern Virginia without power. That included 42,985 in Fairfax County.

Ice from the winter storm that hit the area Sunday is weighing down trees that have fallen on power lines, knocking out power.

• Report your outage! Never assume a neighbor has reported it.

• Use a flashlight only for emergency lighting. Never use candles.
• Unplug electrical equipment until a steady power supply returns.
• Practice proper generator and surface heater safety.
• Leave one light turned on so you know when power is restored.
• Eliminate unnecessary travel, especially by car. Traffic signals will stop working during an outage, creating traffic congestion.
• If power is restored, be certain it is steady before you plug equipment into it.
