National Library Week Starts Sunday

Celebrate National Library Week here in Annandale at the George Mason Regional Library

Every April since 1958, the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country have celebrated National Library Week. The tradition continues when National Library Week kicks off tomorrow, Sunday, Apr. 10 and lasts through Apr. 16.

 The (GMRL) here in Annandale is holding a variety of events throughout April. Here's a look at what's on the calender.

Semi-Annual Book Sale
When
: Thursday, Apr. 14 through Sunday, Apr. 17/Hours: Thursday 5-9 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.; Sunday 12 p.m.- 5 p.m.

Why Go: Books, CDs, videos, recorded books and rare books for all ages will be available at the sale. It's the perfect place to find a new (or old) book to jump-start your summer reading!

Ryan Buckle & Friends: Science You Can Sing To
When
: Tuesday, Apr. 19 at 2:30 p.m.
Why Go: This show will feature great music, cool science and fun with Ryan Buckle and Zelda the Zookeeper. It is a show for all ages, but you must register adults and children here.

Flights of Fancy
When:
Thursday, Apr. 21 at 10:30 a.m.
Why Go: Short stories, fingerplays and music that emphasize early literacy for 3-5 year olds. This event is open to children with adults. You can register here.

Groovy Nate
When: Saturday, Apr. 23 at 10:30 a.m.
Why Go: This fun-filled musical performance is a great way to start the weekend. Bring the whole family to enjoy. You can register here.

Golden Oldies
When:
Tuesday, Apr. 26 at 10:30 a.m.
Why Go: GMRL Staff will present a movie from Hollywood’s Golden Age. Adults, come down for a blast from the past.

If you can't make it to any of these events, the GMRL is always accepting book donations. You can donate a book in the name of National Library Week. The Fairfax Library Foundation offers a wishlist here on their website.
