Peace Lutheran Church Celebrates 50th Anniversary of March on Washington with Bell Ringing Ceremony

The church, which is located in Lincolnia just outside of Annandale, rang their bell 50 times to commemorate the anniversary of the march for jobs and freedom and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech.

Thursday marked the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

As President Barack Obama spoke to the thousands of people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial, the same place where King delivered his speech on August 28, 1963, Peace Lutheran Church Rev. Elizabeth Eaton and church members commemorated the anniversary by ringing the church’s bell 50 times.

Peace Lutheran Church, which is located in the Lincolnia area of Fairfax County just outside of Annandale, joined schools and other churches across the country in a nationwide “Let Freedom Ring” bell ringing ceremony that began at 3 p.m.
