The Great Escape: St. Patrick's Day Events

Some local area bars and restaurants are hosting special deals for the holiday

Welcome to the Great Escape. Every week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier, maybe a whole lot easier.

St. Patrick's Day is Thursday, Mar. 17 and people everywhere will be celebrating by indulging in green beer and traditional Irish food. Here's a short list of some of your local options where you can show off your Irish pride or love of all things Irish. We'll have more suggestions in this week's Patch Picks on Thursday. Why Go: Auld Shebeen is having a special fixed price dinner on St. Patrick’s Day for $39.95, there are two seating times 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Call 703-293-9600 to make a reservation. There will be Irish dancers and The Flying Cows of Ventry and Edsall Road will be performing Celtic tunes.

Where: PJ Skidoos, 9908 Fairfax Boulevard, Fairfax

Why Go: PJ’s will be featuring a traditional Irish dinner special for the holiday during restaurant hours. There will be a bag pipe musician and lots of festive specials including green beer and green shooters

 

Where: Brion’s Grill, 10621 Braddock Road, Fairfax

Why Go: D.C.’s best Grateful Dead tribute band, On The Bus will kick-off the party at 4 p.m. followed by local blues and rock musician Johnny Artis who will rock the house from 9 p.m. until close.

 

Free Cab Rides- The Washington Regional Alcohol Program is offering free cab rides beginning at 4 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday, March 17 until 4 p.m. on Friday, March 18th. For a sober ride home call 1-800-200-TAXI and it's good up to $30 worth of fare. This service is available to lad’s and lassie’s in Northern Virginia, D.C., Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties.
