This Week's Weather: Rain, Then Sun

Rain expected through Wednesday.

Northern Virginia will get a mix of rain and sun this week. Rain is forecast beginning late Monday evening through Wednesday, with sunny skies making an appearance on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs this week start out at a pleasant 72 degrees on Monday and go up to a high of 80 degrees the rest of the week, until Saturday, when the highs are back down to 72 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Northern Virginia will likely escape showers on Monday during the day — there's only a 30 percent chance of rain then. Forecasters predict an 80 percent chance of rain though Monday night, mainly after 10 p.m., with no mention of thunderstorms.

Monday night's rain continues Tuesday and Tuesday night with an 80 percent, then 70 percent chance in the evening, including possible thunderstorms, according to the NWS. Forecasters say Northern Virginia could see an accumulation of a half-inch of rain Tuesday.

Temperatures will increase on Tuesday to a high of around 80 degrees; the mix of rain and heat will make for a "soggy, warm and humid" day, according to WJLA meteorologist Steve Rudin.

There is a chance of showers on Wednesday — the National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent chance of rain; The Weather Channel says Northern Virginia only has a 10 percent chance of rain on Wednesday.

The skies are expected to completely clear by Thursday, with sunny skies predicted through Saturday.
