Reunion Music Society 20th Anniversary Celebration Concert

  • Where: Ernst Community Cultural Center, Annandale
  • When: Friday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Enjoy an evening of jazz with arrangements by the likes of Jimmy Carroll, Neal Hefti and Nelson Riddle.

ACCT presents And Then There Were None

  • Where: Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Alexandria
  • When: Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. (shows through Oct. 28th)
  • Why Go: Aldersgate Church Community Theater performs the popular Agatha Christie murder mystery.

Cirque Chinois: Direct from Beijing, the National Circus of the People’s Republic of China

  • Where: GMU Center for the Arts, Fairfax
  • When: Friday, Oct. 19 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 and 8 p.m.
  • Why Go: Signature acts include the Grand Flying Trapeze, Great Teeterboard, Group Contortion and more.  Don’t miss the pre-performance discussion with a member of the company 45 minutes prior to the show.

2012 Walk to Fight Breast Cancer

  • Where: AMC Hoffman Theatres/Hoffman Center, Alexandria
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 at 8 a.m.
  • Why Go: The “Walk” raises awareness and benefits the Alexandria Breast Cancer Walk Fund at Inova Alexandria Hospital.  Participants can choose to walk or run a 1.5K, 3.5K or 5K course.

Fall Festival

  • Where: St. Peter’s in the Woods Episcopal Church, Fairfax Station
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Why Go: Activities will include live music, moon bounce, face painting, carnival games, raffle prizes and more.  Proceeds to benefit Native American Farmers Cooperative and The Secondary School of the Diocese of Kiteto in Tanzania.
  • Price: Admission is FREE

 

Centreville Day

  • Where: Historic Centreville Park, Centreville
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Why Go: Activities will include a parade, live entertainment, historic tours, children’s activities, food and much more.

Northern Virginia BrewFest

  • Where: Bull Run Regional Park, Centreville
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Why Go: Enjoy live music and delicious food as you sample beers from around the world.

Alexandria Shelter Walk for Homeless Animals

  • Where: Market Square, Old Town Alexandria
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m.
  • Why Go: Walk to support the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria in their efforts to combat animal overpopulation and homelessness.

Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble

  • Where: GMU Center for the Arts, Fairfax

  • Why Go:  The renowned string ensemble will perform selections by Brahms, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn.

Also: Octoberfest at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, Alexandria. Saturday October 20, 3 to 7 p.m. Kinderfest from 3 to 5 p.m. Delicious food and beer, music, a silent auction, and great fun for the kids!
