Wondering what to do this weekend?  Patch has found plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep you busy this Friday through Sunday.

Burns Night Celebration Tea

  • Where: Green Spring Gardens, Annandale
  • When: Sunday, Jan. 22 from 1 – 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: Join millions around the world in celebrating Scottish heritage and the works of poet Robert Burns.  Enjoy music, entertainment, drinks, and a “Burns Supper” featuring haggis and other Scottish delicacies. 
  • Price:  $27 per person; reservations required

Year of the Kangaroo?

  • Where: Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Annandale
  • When: Sunday, Jan. 22 from 2 – 3:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Celebrate both Chinese New Year and Australia Day at this event featuring games, crafts, and live animals.  For ages 4 and up.
  • Price:  $6 for Fairfax County residents; reservations required

American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra presents The Human Spirit

  • Where: GMU Center for the Arts, Fairfax
  • When: Sunday, Jan. 22 at 3 p.m.
  • Why Go: Featuring guest artist Dotian Levalier on harp, with musical selections by Miguel de Aguila, Mark Adamo, and Jean Sibelius.  Children are invited to an “Instrument Petting Zoo” after the performance.
  • Price:  General admission is $14; kids 18 and under are FREE

US Navy Concert Band

  • Where: GMU Center for the Arts, Fairfax
  • When: Friday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m.
  • Why Go: The US Navy Concert Band will perform as part of the 35th International Saxophone Symposium. 
  • Price:  FREE

Historic Beer Dinner

  • Where: Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, Alexandria
  • When: Friday, Jan. 20 from 7 – 9:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Pair historic beers from Yards Brewery in Philadelphia with a four-course meal.  Perfect for the hungry history buff.
  • Price:  $85 per person; reservations required

Third Friday Dancing

  • Where: Hollin Hall Senior Center, Alexandria
  • When: Friday, Jan. 20 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
  • Why Go: Dancers of all ages are invited to enjoy the sounds of the Mount Vernon Swing Band.  Light refreshments will be provided.
  • Price: $4 at the door

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”

  • Where: Little Theatre of Alexandria
  • When: Wednesday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. through Feb. 4
  • Why Go: Enjoy this Tony Award winning musical stage comedy about a small town’s highly anticipated annual event.     
  • Price: Tickets range from $19-$22
