Fairfax County Dance Coalition Gala

  • Where: Northern Virginia Community College, Annandale Campus Theater, 8333 Little River Turnpike, Annandale
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m.
  • Why Go: Eleven participating area dance companies will perform at this 2nd annual gala. The Fairfax County Dance Coalition will also announce the recipient of its $500 scholarship to a high school senior who plans to pursue studies in dance.
  • Price: $15 in advance; $18 at the door

Varsity Co-Ed Cross Country “Glory Days Grill Invitational”

Local competing teams include: TJHSST, LBSS, RSS, WSHS, and SCSS

  • Where: Bull Run Regional Park, 7700 Bull Run Drive, Centreville
  • When: Morning of Saturday, Oct. 1 (click on the provided links for start time details)
  • Why Go: Local varsity boys and girls cross country teams will compete this Saturday morning at Bull Run Park. Get ready to cheer them on as they race to the finish line!

George Mason University’s Faculty Artist Showcase Concert

  • Where: GMU’s Harris Theater, 4400 University Drive, Fairfax
  • When: Friday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m.
  • Why Go: Enjoy this free concert featuring the talents of GMU faculty member Dr. Linda Apple Monson on piano.

Run for Wounded Warriors

  • Where: Burke Lake Park, 7315 Ox Road, Fairfax Station
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 2 at 8:00 a.m.
  • Why Go: Run, jog, or walk the 4.7-mile trail around picturesque Burke Lake to aid a worthy cause. 100 percent of registration fees and donations go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project!
  • Price: $35 online registration; $40 walk-up registration on the day of the race

Fairfax Pets on Wheels “Paws for a Cause” 3K Walk

  • Where: Weber’s Pet Supermarket, 11021 Lee Highway, Fairfax
  • When: Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12 p.m.
  • Why Go: This 16th annual event benefits Fairfax Pets on Wheels, which is a volunteer organization that provides pet visitation to nursing homes and hospitals. 
  • Price: $25 registration fee (includes t-shirt)

Friends of the Virginia Room Booksale

  • Where: City of Fairfax Regional Library, 10360 North St., Fairfax
  • When: Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
  • Why Go: Proceeds from this booksale will benefit the Virginia bookroom at the City of Fairfax Regional Library. Peruse new and “gently used” books on history and Virginia-related topics at bargain prices.
