Weekend Planner: The Nutcracker, Christmas Trees, and More

Friday, Nov. 25 through Sunday, Nov. 27

You’ve had your turkey and all the trimmings, and now it’s time to plan your weekend activities.  Here are some ideas to get you out and about.

Classical Ballet Theatre presents “The Nutcracker”

  • Where:  Northern Virginia Community College, 8333 Little River Tpke, Annandale
  • When:  Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m.
  • Why Go:  Begin this holiday season with Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet featuring Clara and her Nutcracker Prince.
  • Price:  Tickets range from $15 to $22. 

Black Friday at the Workhouse Arts Center

  • Where: , 9601 Ox Rd, Lorton
  • When: Friday, Nov. 25 from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Why Go: Avoid the crowded shopping malls and instead enjoy a day of crafts, entertainment, and beautiful artwork. Activities will include: photos with Santa Claus, craft workshops, carolers, a food drive, and much more.
  • Price: Admission is FREE.

Robinson Secondary School Christmas Tree Sale

  • Where:  Robinson Secondary School, 5035 Sideburn Rd, Fairfax
  • When:  The sale begins on Friday, November 25 from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm.  Saturday from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m,; Sunday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Why Go:  Support the RSS Baseball Team with your purchase of a fresh Frazier Fur.  Trees are netted, and team members will be on hand to load them into your vehicle.
  • Price:  Tree prices start at $45, with wreaths starting at $16.  Cash and checks only.

KMT Musical Theatre presents “Seussical the Musical”

  • Where:  John Calvin Presbyterian Church, 6531 Columbia Pike, Annandale
  • When:  Friday, Nov. 25 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov, 26 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Why Go:  KMT Musical Theatre is comprised of high school actors from the Northern Virginia area.  The show, which is ideal for children of all ages, features Horton the Elephant as well as many other beloved Dr. Seuss characters.
  • Price:  $10 for ages 13 and up; $6 for ages 12 and under.

Drumstix Dash 8K and Family Fun Run

  • Where:  Burke Lake Park, 7315 Ox Rd, Fairfax Station
  • When:  Saturday, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m.
  • Why Go:  All proceeds from this event will be donated to Housing and Community Services of Northern Virginia.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 8K finishers in each age group.  The Fun Run is a 1 mile course for family members of all ages.  Strollers and dogs on leashes are welcome in the Fun Run.
  • Price:  8K admission is $25 in advance and $30 on race day; Fun Run admission is $10.

 Chanticleer: A Chanticleer Christmas

  • Where:  GMU Center for the Arts, 4373 Mason Pond Dr, Fairfax
  • When:  Saturday, Nov. 26 8 p.m.
  • Why Go:  Enjoy an evening with this Grammy Award winning vocal ensemble in concert.  Musical selections include traditional carols, spiritual hymns, and upbeat holiday favorites.
  • Price:  Tickets start at $24.
