Arts and Crafts Showcase to be Saturday, Sunday

Juried show now in second year

The Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild will hold its Second Annual NOVA Fall Arts and Crafts Showcase this weekend at the Annandale campus of Northern Virginia Community College.

More than 55 artisans are expected to attend. Visitors can expect to see a variety of arts and crafts, including jewelry, photography, ceramics, woodcarvings and embroidery, said guild member Howard Serig.

The festival is juried and will have high-quality items on display and for sale, Serig said.

“We like to think this is a unique opportunity for people to see real quality items that are produced by artisans that are juried, as opposed to the buy-and-sell type merchandise you see at many arts and crafts shows,” he said.

The Northern Virginia Handcrafters Guild, founded in 1972, promotes individual craftsmanship and craft-related educational activities, as well as opportunities to sell locally handcrafted works. The guild also promotes the arts through scholarships for local arts and crafts students and supports community outreach programs such as Meals on Wheels.

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Ernst Cultural Center on the Annandale campus, located at 8333 Little River Turnpike. Admission is $3, and free parking is available in the “B” lots during show hours.
