Illest Ingredients at Wakefield Skate Park Features Skateboarding, Urban Dance Contests

Skateboarders and urban dancers will congregate at The Illest Ingredients at Wakefield Skate Park in Annandale on Saturday for a day of music, sport, dancing, and art. 

Presented by Urban Artistry and Wakefield Skate Park, the second annual celebration of urban art and sport features a skateboarding contest. Skateboarders will compete in a best trick contest and a two-minute run competition in which skaters have two minutes to land as many tricks as possible while making use of all the obstacles, according to the Fairfax County Park Authority. Prizes from the Fairfax Surf Shop will we awarded to the winners in each age bracket. Skaters can compete in the 13 and under bracket or the 14 and up group.

 In addition to skateboarding, urban dancers will face off in a b-boy/b-girl battle and an all styles battle. Attendees can cheer on the dancers as they showcase their moves and try to out-dance their opponent. The winners take home $200. Dance contests will take place on the half-pipe.

Artists will also demonstrate urban design techniques with live painting demonstrations, including a demo from Dan Roncesvalles, a local graphic designer and instructor of the new Urban Art Design class at Audrey Moore RECenter.

Schedule of Events:

·         Doors open at noon. Skaters, dancers, and spectators pay admission.

·         Noon to 2 p.m. – Warm ups and registration

·         2 p.m. – Best trick contest

·         3:30 p.m. - B-boy/B-girl battle (urban dancing)

·         5 p.m. - Two-minute run contest

·         6:30 p.m. - All styles dance competition

·         Events will end around 8 p.m. and the park will remain open until 11 p.m.
