Annual All-Heisey Glass Show Returns to Annandale Saturday

Collectors from around the Northern Virginia area and admirers of Heisey glass will descend upon Annandale this weekend for the 40th annual All-Heisey Glass Show at the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department’s Ossian Hall.

The two-day show, which will feature several vendors from the area and around the country, is on Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This is an inexpensive way to see some of the best glass ever made in America,” said Sherry Warren, secretary and treasurer of the National Capital Heisey Collectors Club, who is hosting the show.

Tickets are $7, but are discounted to $6 if you bring a printed flyer from the Heisey Collector’s Club website.

The theme of this year’s show is “sweet treats,” which is geared toward candy jars and other glass items that can be used for storing candy. However, vendors will sell a variety of products from barware and tableware to dessert plates and vases.

Anyone from glass collectors who are just starting out to longtime admirers or collectors of Heisey glass or other brands will enjoy the show and sale, said Warren.

Most of the vendors prefer cash or checks, Warren said. It's recommended visitors to the show to bring cash to make any purchases.

The glass show has been hosted in various cities both in Northern Virginia and in Maryland for the last 40 years, but Warren said the club is excited about hosting the show at the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department for the fourth time.

“We’ve been very pleased and they are so very supportive of us and we are so happy with the location,” said Warren.

The National Capital Heisey Collectors Club, which began in 1972, was created by a group of admirers who wanted to meet, share, and learn more about Heisey Glass, which was produced from 1896-1957 at the A. H. Heisey Company in Newark, Ohio. When the idea of hosting a glass show that sold only Heisey glass was discussed shortly after the club formed, Warren said people doubted the club could attract enough people to the area for an all-Heisey glass show.

“And here we are at our show, 40 years later, and we still only allow Heisey glass. We proved them wrong. We’re very happy about that,” said Warren. “We’re still going strong."

The show, Warren said, remains the only all-Heisey glass show in the country whose sales benefit the study of Heisey glass and the Heisey Glass Museum.

While the Club doesn’t have as many members as it used to, Warren said there’s a small, dedicated staff that works hard year-round to put the show on every year in mid-March in order to donate to the Heisey Glass Museum.
