Blockbuster Video to Close 300 Stores

No official word on specific locations impacted, but an employee said the Annandale location will close.

Blockbuster will be closing 300 of its 800 locations in the coming weeks, according to a report in The Denver Post. Specific sites have not been announced.

Parent company Dish Network told the paper that 3,000 employees will lose their jobs in the process.

The stores targeted reportedly include underperforming sites, as well as locations where leases are set to expire.

There is one Blockbuster located in Annandale at 7448 Little River Tpke., in the Little River Shopping Center. According to a store employee, the Annandale store will close when their lease ends.

For decades, families would make weekly runs to the video store for entertainment. Now, many of the services that Blockbuster stores offer are provided through service station kiosks, mail delivery and online streaming.

Last year, Blockbuster shuttered roughly 500 locations across the country. Read more of The Denver Post report.

Sad that so many jobs are being lost. I wish all the best to the employees.

That store will be missed. Any idea when their lease will run out?
