Construction crews continue to make progress on building the incoming 24-hour Walgreens in Annandale.

The current visible structure occupies much of what was once the parking lot of Fuddruckers restaurant, the property's previous tenant. Despite the progress, it appears there is still much left to be accomplished before the store can open.

A representative for Walgreens told Patch back in June that the store, which is located at 4300 Backlick Rd., was aiming for an open date before the end of summer. The last day of summer is Sept. 21.

I'm not sure why we really need a Walmart. I really enjoyed going to Fuddrucker's and thought it was great for the community.

Not Walmart- WalGREENs.... as in rival to the CVS across the street. Granted, it's not like we need another drug store either....

I think the building looks overwhelming on that site. It is too tall for the area. I like to know who approved those plans. Once again I am sure if it is a developer and they are putting money in the coffer it will be approved.

The biggest OBVIOUS issue with approving plans like this is most likely, at some point one of these store will close due to the loss of revenue. Then we are left with yet another empty business. This just furthers what I believe is wrong with this city POOR PLANNING and leadership (they stink). This city has no idea how to generate new businesses or approve prospective ones. Approving that drug store right across the street from their main competitor was piss-poor planning as usual. Annandale is doomed with people like this running the show. Hey lets approve yet another Korean BBQ or fast food joint ya!! That will really make this FORMALLY wonderful city attractive to QUALITY residents and businesses.
