New Annandale Walgreens Set to Open This Summer

The drugstore will replace longtime restaurant Fuddruckers, which closed last April.

The new Annandale Walgreens under construction at 4300 Backlick Rd., is on schedule to open before the end of summer.

The store is being built on the former site of the popular Fuddruckers restaurant, which closed last year in April when their lease ended.

Once complete, the Walgreens will be a 24-hour drugstore with a pharmacy and a drive-thru, according to a Walgreens representative.

“We think we've found a really good location and we’re confident we’ll be able to serve Annandale residents. We are excited to come to Annandale,” said Robert Elfinger, spokesman for Walgreens.

Many Annandale residents were saddened and outraged when it was announced Walgreens would replace Fuddruckers, which operated in Annandale for more than 25 years. The restaurant held strong ties to the community due to its family-friendly atmosphere and was also a regular host for school fundraisers and community events.
