New Japanese Noodle Restaurant Opening in Annandale Next Month

Tanpopo Ramen House will specialize in Japanese ramen soup.

Good news for lovers of noodles or Japanese food: a new Japanese noodle restaurant will open in Annandale this summer.

Tanpopo Ramen House will be located at 4316 Markham St., next to . Tanpopo means “dandelion” in Japanese.

The restaurant, which is family-owned and operated, will specialize in ramen soup and also include a sushi bar.

“I think [Japanese ramen] is missing from the area. The market for it is becoming popular in D.C. It’s a good concept,” said Owner and Manager Dave Kim.

Due to the size of the restaurant's property, Kim estimates the restaurant will seat less than 50 people. In addition to dine-in options, the restaurant will also accept phone orders for pick up.

Kim said the food prices will be affordable and vary from as low as $4 to $35 and vary based on the kind of dish ordered.

Tanpopo Ramen House is scheduled to open in early August.

I agree with you Buddy but would it be better to leave it vacant? No one else would even try to open a business there...

Ramen noodles? You pay money for someone to open the package and pour on the boiling water?

I've only had Japanese Ramen noodles in New York, so I'm speaking solely from that experience, but there was definitely more to it than what I think of when I hear the word "ramen". The broth had scallions, cabbage, and some spices I couldn't place. It was topped off with a few pieces of sliced chicken. My dinner looked nothing like the packaged noodles and broth you get from the $1 packets.

Why even go out to eat? Just stay at home and eat dogfood out of the can, Rover.

This is great providing it is real Japanese food from a restaurant with Japanese ownership. One of the problems with these so called Japanese restaurants in Northern Virginia is that they are Korean owned. You would not go into a French restaurant and order Spaghetti. Korean Sushi is nothing like Japanese Sushi for quality and taste yet these restaurants claim they are Japanese.
