3. Fairfax County Chairman Sharon Bulova and Republican challenger Spike Williams will participate in a candidate debate forum tonight at Great Falls Grange, located at 9818 Georgetown Pike, in Falls Church tonight at 7 p.m.
4. Also on this day in 2002, former President Jimmy Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development."
5. National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner David Stern announced Monday that the first two weeks of the regular season are canceled. The lockout cancels games through games scheduled from Nov. 1 through Nov. 14
