  4. Also on this day in 2002, former President Jimmy Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize "for his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development."
  5. National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner David Stern announced Monday that the first two weeks of the regular season are canceled. The lockout cancels games through games scheduled from Nov. 1 through Nov. 14
