Five Things: Postal System Established, Books-A-Million Won't Buy Borders

Five things you need to know today July 26, 2011

  1. On this day in 1775, the U.S. postal system was established by the Second Continental Congress, with Benjamin Franklin as its first postmaster general. Although the post office turns 236 years old today, they announced they will close over 3,000 locations.
  2. No sign of rain in the forecast today. Expect a lot of sunshine and a hig temperature of 91 degrees.
  3. We're starting to roll out our candidate profiles for the county, House, and Senate districts that cover Annandale. Our first profile is Dave Marsden with the 37th district. .

  5. Bad news for anyone holding out hope that Books-A-Million might save the only surving Virginia Borders store and 29 other locations; that deal is no longer in the works. .
