Overnight Lane Closures for HOT Lanes Construction Begin Tonight

Some lanes at interstate exits in or near Annandale will be affected

More overnight closures that are part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes project have been announced by the Virginia Department of Transportation. The closures go into effect tonight, Sunday, Feb. 6 and will last until as late as Saturday, Feb. 12. If you travel on interstate 495 or interstate 395 using the Gallows Road, Little River Turnpike, or Braddock Road exits, the following may affect you in the evenings:

  • I-495 north and south at Gallows Road (Route 650): Starting at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6 through Tuesday, Feb. 8, three lanes of I-495 north and south at Gallows Road will be closed. After midnight, all lanes in both directions of I-495 at Gallows Road will close for up to 30 minutes at a time for bridge work. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
  • I-495 north and south at Little River Turnpike (Route 236): Starting at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9 through Friday, Feb. 11, three lanes of I-495 north and south at Little River Turnpike will be closed. After midnight, all lanes on I-495 north and south will close at Little River Turnpike for up to 30 minutes at a time for bridge work. All lanes will reopen on by 5 a.m.
  • I-395 north at I-495: Starting at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6 through Saturday, Feb. 12, one lane will close on I-395 north, progressing to a full I-395 north closure after 10 p.m. All motorists will be detoured to I-495 north to Exit 54A, Braddock Road (Route 620) west, follow signage to I-495 south to Exit 57, I-395 north so that crews can install steel bridge beams. All lanes will reopen on weekdays by 5 a.m., on Saturday by 7 a.m. and on Sunday by 9 a.m.
