2.  Check your surroundings, park in a spot that is visible to people or near a light, don't turn off the engine until you have looked around.

3.  Put your stuff (GPS, Ipod, Nintendo DS.. etc.) and other temptations out of sight, close windows and lock up.

4.  Carry your purse close to your body, don't use your cell phone walking to and leaving a store.

5.  Don't stand with your doors or truck open leaning into your car, bad guys/girls work fast.

6.  If you are putting packages in your car and plan to go back in the store, move your car to another location in case a bad guy is watching.

7.  If you don't feel safe walking to your car, ask a security person for a ride or escort.

8.  If necessary to draw attention if a suspicious person approaches you, honk your horn or use the panic alarm on the key fob.

9.  If you feel you are being followed, go back in the store or if you are driving call 911 and go to a well-lit area or drive to the nearest police station.
