Week in Review

A look back at some of our bigger stories of the week of Sept. 27-Oct. 3

This week, our area was hit with some of the rain and wind from Tropical Storm Nicole. There was flooding in numerous areas in Annandale and a few school activities and events were canceled or postponed. Fairfax City firefighters rescued a couple whose car flooded in the Woodburn-Tobin area during the morning.

The weekly police blotter went up on Monday and on Friday, the police notified the community about the serial burglar currently targeting our area. Police believe the same person is behind the 87 incidents reported so far, three of which are in the Mason District.

We let you know about the county-wide problem of bedbugs and what the county was doing to increase awareness among residents on protecting themselves. The Census bureau's American Community Survey highlighted a few ways Fairfax is changing. Though no data was available for Annandale, there were some interesting changes to Fairfax County in the survey.

We continued our profiles of Annandale businesses and told you about BonChon's popular non-greasy chicken that's a favorite in the community. Thanks to visits from Fairfax Pets on Wheels, residents of Annandale's Arden Courts have the opportunity to open up and receive therapeautic treatment from a friendly source: the loving dogs, cats, and rabbits that the organization brings to visit those in the assisted-living facilities.

The Beauregard Corridor Plan council met in Alexandria on Thursday and we went to learn more about the plan which if approved could drastically increase traffic on Route 236 in Annandale for residents traveling toward I-395 and Alexandria.
