Week in Review: Annandale Patch Launches, Dollar Tree Opens, School Returns, and More

Take a look at some of our bigger stories of the week.

This week on Annandale Patch, we were launched into the world on Wednesday, Sept. 8 and delivered a multitude of stories.

To introduce Annandale's new online source for local news, I showcased our community in a welcome video called "Welcome to Annandale Patch".

We brought you photos from the first day of school for Fairfax County Public School students in Annandale introduced you to School Resource Officer Traci Sontheimer of Holmes Middle School who is one of 52 SRO's in the county, each serving at different schools.

With the return of school came the return of sports and we covered Annandale High School's first football game of the season and the team's victory against Falls Church on Friday. We also introduced tou to the AT Jumpers, Annandale Terrace Elementary School's jump rope team.

We told you about the Annandale Regional Planning Study Committee that is currently examining overcrowding at schools in the Annandale region. The schedule for the rest of the meetings, which are open to the public, was also released.

The new Dollar Tree opened this week in Little River Shopping Center and we profiled neighborhood businesses like AnnSandra. We also introduced you to some local residents like Vinnie Savino, the "mayor" of the Annandale Shopping Center.

The lineup for the upcoming Mason District Festival that will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Mason District Park was released and we previewed the musical acts.

We updated you on the progress of the construction at Ossian Hall Park which is scheduled to reopen to the public in November.

Our "Person on the Street" column debuted and we asked local residents what their favorite thing is about Annandale. You responded and told us your thoughts in the comments. We also introduced our weekly "So You Think You Know Annandale" challenge.
