Weekend Closures at Braddock Road

VDOT will also permanently close Braddock Road west to I-495 south ramp

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Exit 54A, Capital Beltway, I-495 north exit ramp to Braddock Road (Route 620) west beginning Friday, May 13 at 9 p.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14 as part of the Capital Beltway High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lanes Project.

According to a news release, crews will also close the Braddock Road east exit onto I-495 north during the same overnight hours and the following  detours will be in place:
Overnight Detour Routes

  • I-495 North to Braddock Road west: Continue on I-495 north to Exit 52A, Little River Turnpike (Route 236) west, over the Beltway and follow signs back onto I-495 south to Exit 54A, Braddock Road west.
  • Braddock Road east to I-495 north: Continue on Braddock Road east over the Beltway, turn left onto Backlick Road, turn left on Little River Turnpike west and follow signs to I-495 north.

VDOT will also permanently close the ramp from Braddock Road west to I-495 south on or about May 16 in order to activate a new traffic signal with a left turn onto I-495 south. The release states that the closure "will allow for the completion of the HOT Lanes connection to Braddock Road."

Motorists are encouraged to use caution while the new traffic pattern is installed. If it rains, the closure and other traffic changes may be delayed. For further details, view the Braddock Road fact sheet [see PDF].
