Friends Say "Thank You!" at Hidden Oaks Saturday 3 to 5

Friends of Accotink Creek say, "Thanks!" to April's stream clean up volunteers May 18, 3-5, Hidden Oaks Nature Center.

Friends of Accotink Creek will host a "Thanks For Clean Water" get-together, Saturday, May 18th, at  Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Annandale from 3 to 5.

The Friends are thanking all the Accotink Creek Clean-up volunteers who worked at the group's 12 Clean-up sites along the 23 mile stream valley that runs from Fairfax City to Springfield.

This year's six-week spring Clean-up hauled out 317 sacks of plastic bottles, aluminum cans and recyclables, 36 tires, oil tanks, a sod roller, $20 (two 5s and a 10), and an engine block. Friends of Accotink Creek have organized April stream clean-ups for eight years.

Saturday afternoon, the water-protection group welcomes everyone for guided walks through the Center's wooded grounds, talks about the rapidly-approaching Wakefield Run stream restoration project, and how to get involved in volunteer-powered projects like water quality monitoring, environmental education, tree planting, and the International Coastal Cleanup this September.
