Obituary: Jill Kaitlin Clampitt

Seventh-grade special education teacher at Annandale's Poe Middle School died from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Jill Kaitlin Clampitt, 26, passed away on Sunday, July 7 from cardiac arrest from an undiagnosed heart condition.

Clampitt, who was born in Fairfax, was a special education teacher at Poe Middle School in Annandale. A graduate of Potomac Falls High School in Sterling, she received her Master of Arts in Education from West Virginia University, according to an obituary on the Adams-Green Funeral Home website.

Poe parents and faculty and staff were notified of Clampitt’s passing on July 16 through a message sent via the Fairfax County Public Schools Keep in Touch system. The message read as follows:

“It is with great sadness that we share the death of a member of our Poe community, Jill K. Clampitt.  Jill, who was 26 at the time of her death, died unexpectedly as a result of an undiagnosed heart condition on July 7, 2013.  She was a seventh grade teacher who cared deeply for each of her students.  She loved her job and was a valued member of our staff.  She will be missed.  Plans are being made to create a memorial garden in honor of Jill.”

Clampitt was laid to rest on July 14. She is survived by her parents Janet and Jerry, an older sister Jaime, an older brother Josh, a nephew Caleb, family members, friends, coworkers, and students.
