Annandale Man Pleads Guilty to Health Care Fraud

Tuan Vu, 43, of Annandale, plead guilty on Tuesday to committing health care fraud at his dentist practice in Alexandria.

Vu, who owns Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, PLLC, was charged by criminal information with health care fraud for “fraudulently billing insurance providers hundreds of thousands of dollars for dental services that he did not provide to his patients,” according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Court records show Vu committed fraud from January 2007 until September 2011. During those four years, Vu billed dental insurance providers for services that he did not provide his patients. The news release states that at least 10 private insurance providers suffered more than $400,000 in losses due because of Vu. Other losses as a result of Vu’s fraud include $87,389 from the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program and $180,048 from the Virginia Medicaid program.

Vu will be sentenced on May 4 and faces up to 10 years in prison.
