FCPD Santa Ride Canceled Due to Weather

The 27th annual event, which collects toys for sick children in local hospitals, will not stop at area schools on Tuesday as planned "due to anticipated snow."

Santa Claus won't ride through the streets of Fairfax County on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle greeting children and delivering toys this year. The 27th Annual Santa's Ride for Children, scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 10, has been canceled due to anticipated inclement weather.

Since many of the stops along the motorcade’s route are Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) elementary schools and all schools are closed on Tuesday, the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) decided to cancel the ride, according to an email message from the department.

Every year, Santa is escorted by the FCPD motorcycle squad across Fairfax County to collect toys and deliver them to children in need at local hospitals including INOVA Fairfax Hospital Child Life Center and Fisher House at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. Toys have been delivered to the Georgetown Hospital Lombardi Cancer Center, the Ronald McDonald House and Reston F.I.S.H. in previous years,

Several law enforcement agencies team up with FCPD for the annual event, including the Virginia State Police, City of Falls Church Sheriff's Office, the Vienna Police Department, City of Fairfax Police, and police departments in Herndon and Vienna.

All toys that were collected by FCPD will be delivered to children in the days ahead.
