Mason and Franconia Stations Release Weekend DWI Checkpoint Results

Two arrests were made for DWI in Mason District and one in Franconia

Fairfax County police officers made three arrests last week during sobriety checkpoints conducted by the Mason District Station and Franconia Station of the Fairfax County Police Department. Both stations cover the Annandale area.

The purpose of the checkpoints are to "deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers" and ensure "that their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs," according to the news release. Mason District conducted their checkpoint on Saturday, May 7 from 11:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the eastbound lanes of Columbia Pike near the intersection of Blair Road. A total of 604 motorists passed through the checkpoint. Two arrests were made for DWI; six summonses were issued for miscellaneous traffic offenses. Three people were charged with possession of marijuana.

The Franconia checkpoint was on Friday, May 6 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday on southbound Backlick Road at Leewood Forest Drive, near Edsall Road. A total 960 vehicles were checked. One driver was arrested on narcotics charges, and five summons for traffic violations were issued.
