Minor Charged with Starting Annandale Home Fire

No one was injured in the fire

A 14-year-old male has been charged with intentionally setting a fire on Nov. 8 on Bruce Lane in Annandale.

According to a news release by the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, the fire originated on the exterior of a single-family home in the 3900 block of Bruce Lane. The release further states the 14-year-old was charged according to Virginia Code, 18.2-77, and setting a fire capable of spreading, Virginia Code 18.2-87.

Thanks to smoke alarms, inhabitants in the home were able to escape early enough. There were no injuries.

Damage to the home is estimated to be approximately $35,000 to the siding, eaves, and roof assembly.

Two adults and two children have been displaced, but the family has declined Red Cross assistance.
