A van was destroyed in a vehicle fire caused by a Molotov cocktail in Fairfax just outside of Annandale early Friday morning.

Firefighters with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the fire at 9202 Ashmeade Dr. at approximately 1:35 a.m. Neighbors saw the fire and called 911.

The vehicle, a Honda Odyssey van, was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters quickly conducted a rapid fire attack and extinguished the fire.

There were no injuries. The nearby garage of a home received minor damage.

The van was deemed to be a total loss with damages estimated at $8,000.

The fire was caused by a Molotov cocktail, or an improvised bottle-based incendiary device, according to a news release from the department.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Re:cops patrol for drunk drivers. A total of 5 in 2 districts. A better "patrol" would be a cop standing at a major intersection and waiving over drivers who are texting and/or not wearing seat belts. At route 50 and Patrick Henry drive I observed 3 texters abreast happily doing their thing.

A vehicle parked next to mine in Annandale was also fire bombed. My van, which I had just bought and which was not the target, sustained $5,000 worth of damage. Precision Auto Body did a terrible job with the rehab. I had to do the smoke remediation myself after they pretended to do it. The perpetrator was an Hispanic male who was never caught, although his victim, a Hispanic woman knew him as her ex-lover, a story confirmed by two sources in whom she confided. When questioned by the police she pretended not to speak English. After they left she could be heard speaking perfect English without a trace of an accent. Later, a neighbor kid, also Hispanic, told me he and his father sat in his work truck watching as the perpetrator broke the windows out of the targeted vehicle (for ventilation) before torching it. The father told the boy, "Don't say nothing. This doesn't concern us." These are the types of crimes that are coming directly from the third world, as part of our open borders policy. The woman, who could have implicated her ex-lover and spared me the expense of my deductible, but for her fear of retaliation, has three different kids by three different fathers and lives in Section 8 Housing. She drives a current model year BMW. The kid who watched my van burn up without saying a word, though he knew it was mine and knew where I lived (in his building), was kicked out of his middle school that year for disciplinary reasons and for more than half a school year he was driven back and forth to the library in a taxi at tax payer's expense (as part of his expulsion). He and his mother also live in Section 8 Housing, although both she and her on-again-off-again estranged husband, who now lives here again, both work. He is a Home Depot contractor for window and door installations. My van was burned up right in front of a security camera in a brilliantly well-lit area, where I purposely parked it. But the cameras are only as good as the guy who maintains them and reviews their surveillance. The Pakistani man in charge of "security" for the HOA declared the cameras were not working that night when I asked him for his cooperation. He has been known to privately catch criminals on the cameras and extort money from them in exchange for his silence. I reported this to Fairfax County detectives at another's behest years before my van was burned up. Innumerable residents have had problems with crimes involving their property here and getting no cooperation from this guy. Later, my van was plundered for $3,000 worth of tools directly in front of a camera and under a light where you could read a newspaper at midnight, according to camera footage I saw from another date. Once again, the Pakistani HOA employee told me: The camera worked up to the night in question and after that night, but not the night of the break-in that would have required a very strong man to carry very heavy equipment away - impossible without their parking near my van and driving past several cameras. When I asked Mr. "K" for the surveillance data he first told me my flash drive didn't work - a lie. Then he disappeared for several hours after I brought him another one and returned to tell me the machine wasn't working. (Only for the interval when I needed it.) Doubtless he took the protracted time to erase the critical data. (Another resident got the data within ten minutes of his request.) If Mr. "K." likes you, the cameras work; if he doesn't, they don't. I believe he might even be setting up certain capers and selling criminal access to the residents he is paid to protect. Welcome to El Salvador. Welcome to Pakistan. Welcome to Annandale.
