Molotov Cocktail Sets Van Ablaze Near Annandale

There were no injuries, but the car was deemed a complete loss.

A van was destroyed in a vehicle fire caused by a Molotov cocktail in Fairfax just outside of Annandale early Friday morning.

Firefighters with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the fire at 9202 Ashmeade Dr. at approximately 1:35 a.m. Neighbors saw the fire and called 911.

The vehicle, a Honda Odyssey van, was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters quickly conducted a rapid fire attack and extinguished the fire.

There were no injuries. The nearby garage of a home received minor damage.

The van was deemed to be a total loss with damages estimated at $8,000.

The fire was caused by a Molotov cocktail, or an improvised bottle-based incendiary device, according to a news release from the department.
