No Arrests in Franconia Station Weekend Sobriety Checkpoint

Five summonses were issued for miscellaneous traffic offenses

Five summonses were issued for miscellaneous traffic offenses during a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, May 21 from 11:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. Sunday by the Franconia District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department (which covers part of Annandale). There were no arrests were made for DWI.

Approximately 696 motorists passed through the checkpoint on South Van Dorn Street near the intersection of Castlewellan Drive.

The purpose of the checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers. All motorists were stopped and drivers were checked to ensure their abilities to drive had not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Ten auxiliary officers and eight police officers participated in the operation.
