Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a fire at 3803 Ridge Road in Annandale shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday night.
The two-alarm fire started in the attic of the two-story family home. Upon arriving on scene, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and fire was visible from the roof of the home. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, according to Capt. William Moreland with the department.
Fire investigators have ruled the fire as accidental, identifying the cause as an unidentified electrical anomaly leading to an attic fan.
The home's occupant was present at the time of the fire, but there were no injuries. Damage to the home is estimated at $40,000. The resident has declined Red Cross assistance.
