Support Your CAC, Buy a Mason District Challenge Coin

The Mason District Citizen Advisory Committee is selling coins as a fundraiser

Mason District residents can now show their support for their police station and the officers who serve them by purchasing a Mason District Station challenge coin.

The coins are for sale as part of a fundraiser for the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC meets every first Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the .

“We began selling the challenge coins in 2005 and it has become an ongoing fundraiser for the CAC. We currently have approximately 90 coins available,” said Ben Hester, chairman of the Mason District Station CAC, who added that more coins can be ordered as needed.

The design of the coin features the station and a police cruiser. The front of it has the words Fairfax County Police Department around the face, as well as the word Mason, representative of the station.

The sale of the coins is meant to help members of the CAC show their support for the officers, according to Officer Brendan Murphy, Crime Prevention Officer with the Mason District Station.

“Profits from the challenge coin sale provide funds for the CAC to give a small gift card to the selected Officer of the Month to recognize their contribution to our community,” Murphy said.

Murphy, along with an artist from the company SymbolArts, developed the design.

Challenge coins are typically affiliated with the military and are collected by service members to show membership or affiliation with the group or organization minted on the coin.

“Residents should purchase the Challenge Coins to show support for our police officers, to show pride in the Mason Station, and show pride in our community,” said Hester.

The coins cost $8 and can be purchased at the front desk in the lobby of the .
