Annandale Residents Donate $72,000 to Presidential Campaigns

President Obama has received roughly $40,000.

Annandale area residents have contributed about $72,000 to presidential campaigns during the 2012 election cycle.

Residents in the 22003 ZIP code donated about $27,500. Residents living in the 22031 ZIP code donated $16,100, and residents in the 22042 ZIP code donated $28,200.

As of Feb. 21, 2012, President Barack Obama’s campaign has received about $44,000 from Annandale community members, according to information at Opensecrets.org.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney’s campaign had the second-highest amount in contributions, with $15,750 from Annandale ZIP codes.

The campaign to elect U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) has received $8,052.

Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and former U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich’s (R-Georgia) campaigns received less than $3,000 each.

Fairfax County residents in Patch's coverage area have donated a total of more than $1.2 million to presidential campaigns.

More than half of those dollars have gone to Romney’s campaign, which has gained a total of more than $780,000 from Fairfax County residents. Obama has received the second-highest number of donations, with more than $620,000.

Gingrich has received more than $75,000 from county residents, while Santorum and Paul have collected less than $30,000 each.

The Virginia Republican Presidential Primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 6, but .
