If you've been thinking about adopting a furry feline friend, June might be the month for you.

You can visit the Fairfax County Animal Shelter this month to take part in ExtravaCATza!, a celebration of cats and kittens. All month long, adoption fees on all cats and kittens will be just $10 (instead of the usual $30 fee), according to a news release from the shelter.

View cats available for adoption here.

If you already own a cat and have questions about cat health or behavior or want to learn more about cats before adopting, you can visit every Saturday in June from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to meet with one of our volunteer cat experts.

Other features of this event include:

  • Ten ExtravaCATs will have their adoption fees completely waived
  • Classes and programs will be held throughout the month, including a safe cat handling class and a social hour for cat lovers (see shelter calendar for details)
  • Prizes, giveaways and daily deals – find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep up with specials

June is typically the month the most homeless cats come into the shelter so adopting a cat during this time means that adopters are getting a new best friend and are also saving a life. The shelter usually has about 35 – 45 available cats and kittens of all ages, sizes and personalities.  The $10 adoption fee is made possible by support from the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

Visit the animal shelter calendar of events located on the shelter website at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/animalshelter for details about all of the classes, programs and events that will be offered in June.  The animal shelter is open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the shelter at 703-830-1100, extension 2.
