Fairfax County Will Recycle Christmas Trees for Residents

County will recycle trees for free through mid-January.

Clearing out after the holidays? Here is how you can recycle your Christmas tree.

All Fairfax County residents can recycle their Christmas trees (less than eight feet tall) at the curb with the regular trash and recycling collection service during the first two weeks in January.

This is a free service for all county residents regardless of whether homeowners have their trash and recycling collected by Fairfax County or a private service provider. For trees larger than eight feet tall, please contact your collection service provider for details on how to dispose of it.

Please make sure lights, decorations, tree toppers and tree stands are off the tree. Remove trees from plastic bags as the trees will be ground into mulch and made available to county residents at no charge.

After the first two weeks in January, collection companies may charge an additional fee for Christmas tree removal. For additional collection details after the initial collection period, contact your refuse and recycling collection company.
