Forum for Democratic Hopefuls in Fairfax Sheriff's Race Set for Wednesday

Candidates for the Democratic nomination in the Fairfax County Sheriff special election will participate in a public forum Wednesday night before a nominee is chosen in a Democratic caucus July 23.

Mark Sites and Stacey Kincaid, both veterans of the sheriff’s office, are competing for the Democratic nod after former sheriff Stan Barry announced that he was retiring in July. A special election will be held November 5 and either Sites or Kincaid will face a Republican opponent.

Sites is currently serving as Barry’s replacement. He has also served as the chair of the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board and a member of the Fairfax Criminal Justice Board.

Kincaid has been with the sheriff’s office since 1987. She graduated from Frostburg State College in 1987 with a degree in political science and criminal justice.

Either Sites or Kincaid will be nominated in a Democratic caucus on Tuesday, July 23 in the auditorium at W.T. Woodson High School.

Residents wishing to vote must sign a document declaring that they:

• are a democrat

• are a registered voter in Fairfax County or Fairfax City

• believe in the principals of the Democratic Party

• do not intent to support a candidate who is opposed to the Democratic nominee in the special election

Wednesday’s forum will give residents the opportunity to hear the candidates’ views and ideas for the position.

The forum will also be hosted at W.T. Woodson High School, 9525 Main St., Fairfax, Va., in the cafeteria.

The event is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. and will be moderated by George Burke, chairman of the 11th Congressional District Democratic Committee.
