Cocaine Ring

More than two dozen people from Northern Virginia were . According to case documents, those charged — largely Honduran immigrants who have lived in Northern Virginia for the past seven years — hired couriers to smuggle cocaine to the United States, usually through wooden shoes or picture frames.

In other crime news, police and charged her with a felony hit and run that resulted in the death of 21-year-old earlier in May on Harrison Lane in the Groveton area.

School Security Cameras

The principals at and both hosted meetings this week to hear community input on whether those schools should install security cameras in high-traffic areas, such as cafeterias and hallway intersections. The Fairfax County School Board . According to Fairfax County Public Schools' policy, each individual school can decide whether to install cameras. Cameras are allowed only in “hot spots” such as cafeterias and lobbies.

Thomas Jefferson High School Admissions

Fairfax County Public Schools officials this week revealed to the highly competitive Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. In separate news, the school was named the by U.S. News and World Report.

Coming This Week

Friday is Bike to Work Day. Commuter Connections, the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA) and Fairfax County government will have rest stops throughout Fairfax County for people who choose to bike to work that day.
